Slices thick; not made for 7 or 11 cup
It’s hard for me to give an accurate number of stars for this product because I didn’t actually use it! I received this disc as a gift, but it was not the right size. I have an 11-cup Cuisinart food processor (of the DLC-8 series) and this disc is definitely made for the wider, 14-cup processors.
But by the looks of it, the blade would definitely slice food into respectably thick pieces. The disc was solid, quality manufactured, with a very sharp blade.
Also, if you’re looking for an 8mm blade for an 11-cup processor, I don’t think Cuisinart makes one. I’ve found them up to 6mm thick, but not 8mm.
When you need to cut a lot of vegetables and want thick slices, this is excellent.
Normally I’ll just cut vegetables by hand since the clean up process is faster than cleaning up equipment. But if you want a lot of thickly sliced foods, an 8mm slicer is the way to go.
If you’re going cut soft cheeses like mozzarella, first partially freeze the cheese (you want the cheese to be very firm but not rock hard frozen) or the cheese will gum up the slicer.
Just right for salad ingredients
With this disk I drop a whole head of Romain lettuce down the chute followed by other vegetables precut lengthwise and in a minute or two I have a nice chunky salad.
