Frieling #4 Cone Coffee Filter, 23 karat gold plated

Well made

Although expensive, it is of a higher quality than the gold tone filter I have used in the past. The holes are much smaller so I can now grind my coffeer finer. It also cleans easier-not sure why that is.

Takes Distant 3rd Place

Needed a back-up to my Swissgold filter. Given the increase in gold prices, Frieling was the only brand readily available at a reasonable price. I have a Technivorm Moccamaster and the temp is right and the flow through/brewing time is very good. The Frieling was a disappointment. Could have gone with a Gold-Tone at less than half the price. Made of lighter plastic and a more transparent mesh, it performed slightly better than a Gold-Tone filter but was weak and let more “powder” through. More sediment left in the coffee. Mind you I go with a coarser 6.5 grind.

Decided to compare, using same machine, coffee and amount, my SwissGold (23 karat) , Braun Gold-Plated (23K), Frieling Gold-Plated (23K) , and a Krups Gold-Tone (plain stainless steel mesh). The SwissGold came in 1st, making an almost perfect cup of coffee. A decent 2nd was the Braun Gold Filter. A distant 3rd was the Frieling and then close to it, in 4th place, was the Krups regular Gold-Tone. Was…

does what it is supposed to do

I got this to replace a Swiss Gold Filter. Though it’s thinner and flimsier than the Swiss Gold it appears to work equally as well. It is cheaper. Time will tell if it stands up as well.
