Clear Espresso Tamper Stainless Steel 58 Mm Coffee

Excellent European Convex Tamper for under $18 – Perfect fit for 58mm filter!

This is an excellent stainless steel tamper for under $18. It is very stylish, heavy, and has a large ergonomic handle making it very easy to apply the proper 30lbs of tamping pressure. The base is just under 58mm diameter so it makes a perfect fit with a filter cup that is exactly 58mm! The quality of the machining, finish, and polish is excellent and makes it a beautiful object that should be on display at the MOMA Industrial Design exhibit. It is even dishwasher safe!

Please note this Chinese-made tamper has a smooth polished European Convex base which is more curved than a US Convex base. Some users disliked the larger curvature European base but in some tests the European base results in richer espresso when making a double-shot. (I can see how the European convex can be considered a problem by some when using it on a single-shot filter.) See YouTube video “Tamper Base Testing” (made by SeattleCoffeeGear) for a comparison of different tamper bottoms and how they…

Convex, 2-pc stainless tamper. Works great

Bought this to use with my Gaggia Classic. It fits the 58mm portafilter leaving approx 1mm of gap between it and the basket. With this tamper, I can dial in my grind/tamp to the beans I’m currently using, which in this case is locally roasted Victrola Streamline (one of the finest Seattle has to offer). The shots are consistent, given consistency on the steps used for extraction. It is a 2pc, the bottom being solid stainless and the upper portion being plastic/stainless(above the black piece). They screw together as the upper piece is threaded. You can put grinds inside that clear portion for a custom look.

For the price, this thing can’t be beat. Get it. It’s quality

great tamper…but

This tamper works great with my Gaggia Classic machine’s portafilter. My only complaint is after 2 weeks of using it the plastic on the handle is cracking. I am hoping it’s just cosmetic and won’t completely break. If it were not cracking I would give it 5 stars.
