Great carafe, on accident!

I bought this as a last minute replacement to a more expensive brand that broke. The inner glass lined thermal layer kept my coffee hot for hours, and when I forgot about it when I walked out of the door to go to work, I was pleasantly surprised that the next morning (at least 24 hours) the coffee I forgot about was still warm! Not hot mind you, but warm enough if you were in a hurry.

Slightly flawed . . .

The good:

When working properly the carafe does an excellent job of keeping liquids hot/cold (assuming one follows the instructions and pre-heats/chills the carafe for the 5 minutes recommended by the manufacturer).

It’s reasonably attractive. Looks true to picture. Handle feels sturdy.

The bad:

The button on the lid that one “clicks” to open/close the carafe quickly became defective on my unit. It opens (allowing liquid to pour through the lid and out of the spout) but then does not close when pressed again (as it is supposed to). If this mechanism is not closed manually, by physically removing the lid and depressing the plastic piece on the bottom of the lid, the unit is not sealed and therefore cannot maintain internal temperature. I hope this is a singular defect, but several other reviewer’s claims that the carafe does not keep liquids hot/cold has me thinking that it may not be. Going to return to Amazon for replacement.

Faulty seals, poor construction

I’ve had this carafe for a little over a month. It didn’t keep hot beverages very warm for long, but it met my needs. I found that it poured very slowly with the lid on, but again, that didn’t matter. Until I started to notice a stinky black liquid leaking from the bottom. I opened the bottom and found the inside glass piece had not completely sealed at the top (there was a plastic piece that looked faulty), and liquid had been leaking into the inside area. Once opened, I could not easily reassemble it. The outer metal piece feels flimsy.

This is a poorly made carafe, and I will most likely have to throw it out which really bothers me.
